First, one has to have an idea or a product or a service. That's the basis of the plan. And that's the first step, however after that first step, many things all have to be done and all with equal importance. One needs a location, a bank, a way to accept credit cards, employees, furnishings, licenses and permits and inspections and the list goes on and on. Of course, in this day and age, one needs a web site and a way to sell or contract online. Accepting credit cards, in the online venue, becomes of utmost importance. Very few customers buy online these days without using a credit or debit card. It's very awkward and slow to make a purchase and then write and mail a check. And a money order is even worse. Of course, no one mails cash these days; it's just not safe. There are no guarantees that money will arrive at its destination and no guarantees that it will be posted to the proper account or posted at all. Any business that is not set up to accept credit cards or debit cards is severely limiting any possible online sales. But, online sales aren't the only consideration. There will always be impulse buyers, who just want what they want when they want it and being able to take debit and credit cards make it possible to satisfy them right away. There are many aspects of business that must be taken care of to open a new business. In many cases, there really isn't a hierarchy, it just all has to be done to get the doors open. However, money handling and the ability to accept credit cards ranks high in the readiness category. A convenient bank with business features and a credit card company are of utmost importance simply because the business is being opened to make money. A new business just isn't ready for business until they've opened all avenues for bringing in sales. Without that revenue and without the convenience of credit and debit cards, small businesses won't make it.
